Materials Information

The term "dressing" a knife or how it's dressed, refers to any number of embellishments available to customize a handmade knife. Here are a few embellishments to consider: filework, engraving, carving, inlaying, overlaying, initializing, plating or any special finish (mirror, satin, matte or blasted), special grinds or locking mechanisms, special materials (stainless steel liners, pearl handles, Damascus bolsters, etc) or anything else to make the knife unique and personal.

Blade Materials Used: Most blades are hollow ground out of 440-C or ATS-34 Stainless Steel. They are heated to a Rockwell hardness or 58-60 (C-scale) depending on the design and usage. All blades are double-tempered and then local tempering is given to each one. I am also forging my own Cable Damascus and carbon steels.
Pins, Liners and Bolster Materials Used: Most pins (on straight knives) and fasteners (screws on folding knives) are stainless steel; a few are brass for the color effect. Most liners and bolsters are stainless steel. Nickel silver, titanium or Damascus are available upon request.
Inlay Materials Used: Most inlays are twisted wire from brass, copper or stainless steel. Flat inlays are silver, gold or brass. Other inlays are available upon request.
Sheaths: Most sheaths are 4 - 8 oz. cowhide leather, hand-sewn or laced and custom fit for the knife. Embellishments include double-stitched, inlayed, hand-tooled, brass-lined and monogrammed. Styles are side belt-mount (traditional), rear belt-mount, boot clip, belt hook, pocket clip or jewelry ring. All styles can be made right or left-handed.
Please specify.
Handle Materials Used: I use mostly *natural handle materials - rosewood, ebony, cocobolo, bloodwood, purpleheart, etc. I will use micarta or pakka wood upon request. Antler, horn, ivory (mastodon & elephant), pearl and other rare materials are available at an additional charge.

* Natural handle materials can not be guaranteed from shrinking, folding or cracking.

Other knives available for immediate delivery can also be found on the Custom Knife Directory.
